Is Hydration Your Key To Sucess?
Marathon season is fast approaching and with the core block of the training underway, especially during winter. It is key to not forget about a very important part, your hydration and fuelling. This will not only help you finish the race, but it will also help you achieve your goal and potentially surpass it.
Why is hydration so important for marathon training?
Hydration is key for energy levels, recovery of your muscles, and maintaining a steady heart rate. This all very important when it comes to endurance sports, such as marathons. Not only is it hydration but is also the ratio of water loss and sodium loss that is important. Now it is getting very complex, it is hard to think about all of this whilst also keeping up with a complex training plan.
Now where does FLOWBIO come into play?
The most popular advice for marathon runners is to have ‘X amount of electrolytes per hour’. A universal strategy will not work as everyone loses salt at a different rate with different conditions also influencing it. A slogan will not do it; we need data and a personalised approach to help improve our hydration strategy. To be able to monitor your sweat loss in different climates and to then help build a great understanding how much and when one would need to rehydrate is key. That is the FLOWBIO sensor! It takes all your sweat data from your session, then the FLOWBIO App analyses it and gives you suggestions on how to optimise you training through hydration. It even gives suggestions with your favourite electrolyte brands.
We are offering any of our clients to be able to rent our FLOW BIO device for 2 weeks for £10.00. You will need a smart watch, such as a Garmin, Zwift, Wahoo or Coros. In these 2 weeks, you should be able to get in a variety of workouts to be able to work out how to improve your hydration techniques especially going forward with your marathon training. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact us and one of our specialist coaches will be more than happy to help you.
